Memorable Moment

03-02-2010 @ 16:09,Erik,Erik, Leave comment - 2

On February 27 Canada won another gold medal with Kevin Martin smiling for the first time (that I know of). Having a very close game in the 7th and 8th end against the most favourite diamond patterned panted Norwegians. With the score at 6-3 in the tenth end with two Norway rocks in the house, second last rock, Kevin Martin is up. He throws the rock and bang there goes one of Norways rocks and Kevin makes it so Norway can't get 3 points so... CANADA WINS! I'm sure that Martin and all other Canadians will remeber this game!

The First Summer Olympics Summary

01-22-2010 @ 11:12,Erik,Erik, Leave comment - 2

When the Olympics started, it was a two day event in the middle of June. The Olympics used to be called "I Olympia". "I Olympia" was actually made to bring countries closer. Surprisingly, the 1896 Olympics was the largest meeting of international competitors! The second Olympics was the first to allow women to compete in sports. Sadly, the two world wars discontinued three of the Olympics(1916, 1940, and 1944). Unfortunately, the Berlin Olympics were actually hijacked by the Nazi government in 1936 and in the 1972 Olympics 11 Israelis were killed by Palestinian terrorists. Then suddenly celebrating 100 years of the Olympics, a pipe bomb exploded and killed 2 people and injured many more. The bomber was at large until 2003 when he commited 4 bombings!

Lights will Guide you Home Video Response

I watched a video called "Lights will Guide you Home" with music called "Fix You" by Coldplay. It was about the Olympic torch history and how it was transported in the past. Some cool ways I saw the torch being transported were: the torch travelled by foot, riding in a train, being skied and one that really amazed me, is a person swimming underwater with it! Some ways that I saw the torch being started were: torch to torch, torch to candle to torch, and one that caught my eye was with a flare gun. This story told me that good things can happen, in exchange for good deeds.

Olympic Response

Story: The standard high jump "scissor kick" just didn't work for Dick Fosbury. So, he invented his own way to get over the bar: headfirst. Everyone thought this looked ridiculous so they called it the "Fosbury Flop." But Dick had the last laugh-he left the 1968 Olympics with the gold! Nowadays, most high jumpers flop just like Mr. Fosbury!

Response: I think that not having the original "scissor kick" in high jump is quite odd and inventing your own jump is pretty impressive. The name does sound quite ridiculous, the "Fosbury Flop". I'm not really surprised he got the last laugh, he got gold in the 1968 Olympics! I can't believe that Mr. Fosbury's flop actually got most high jumpers today to use the "Fosbury Flop". I'm surprised that his invention was headfirst.

I drew this because the Inuksuk is cheering on Canada, the maple leaf is cheering on Canada to win bronze, the beaver is cheering on the Canadian team to win silver and they are all cheering and hoping that Canada wins gold in the Olympics.2010 Olympics

Acrostic Poem

Actually lost a game to Russia.

Most games undefeated.

Every game was astounding.

Repeated the last 3 seconds three times in one game!

Italians got destroyed by Americans 38-68.

Celebrated prematurely after every finals game.

A record setting team.

No losses ever in the Olympics

Barely beaten by the Russians

Aleksander Belov got the winning basket

Summer Olympics 1972

Killed the Czechoslovakian team

Egyptians got demolished by USA

Team Spain got devoured by United States

Brazilian team got extinguished by Americans

Always will remember the 1972 Summer Olympics

Lots of injuries/rejections

Lost by 1 point 50-51

Team Japan got crushed by Americans

Eighty one to fifty five victory against Austrailia

Annihalated the Cubian team

Made a miserable loss
